Shared and Non-Shared Servers: High-End VPS vs. Dedicated

Before you buy any web hosting plan, you must have at least a little knowldge of the market. You may easily get lost in a mass of options available from different companies. Let's take a closer look at
high-end VPS vs. Dedicated web hosting. There may seem to be a great difference between the two, but actually there is almost none.

How Does High-End VPS Operate?

A high-end VPS system is simply a virtual private server that has more resources in terms of memory, CPU speed, and storage space. Though it is still shared with other customers, it behaves more like a dedicated server than a low end VPS system. Its key advantage is that it is cheaper than a dedicated server sytem, while providing control over your site the way typical dedicated servers do.

What is Dedicated?

A dedicated web server is one that you have complete control over and is not shared with any other customer. Since you cover all the expenses yourself, it is inevitably more expensive than any other type of hosting. Generally speaking, the company who provides the server is responsible for the upkeep; however, there may be a few companies who make the customer responsible for it. Make sure you read the contract thoroughly and clear up any doubts, so that you do not get involved in any extra costs. This type of servers is usually employed by huge companies that deal with many users and large traffic on a daily basis, or by those who handle sensitive information.

Choosing the Right Plan

Both of these plans are very similar in nature, and both of them are going to be fairly expensive, depending on the company used to purchase them. It will be easier for you to choose between the two options if you compare particular plans offered by individual companies, considering your personal requirements. If cost is the ultimate concern, then the high end VPS plan will be the best choice for the site. If the price is a secondary issue, you may opt for the dedicated server.

If you are not sure what you will need, the web hosting companies will be able to answer your questions and provide you with assistance in choosing the correct plan. Look at several companies to determine who can provide the best plan for the least amount of money, therefore providing you with the best value. Luckily, you do not sign a pact with your own blood, so you are free to change hosts and plans until you are fully satisfied with the service.
